ANTI-PLASTIC MOVE
As municipal administrators come together this morning, they have one development that they should be proud of.
It’s an initiative by the Rakiraki market vendors who want to make their market plastic free. With the backing of the town’s administrators and the Government, the vendors are confident that the move will be embraced by the people of Rakiraki.
They will start with banning single use plastics before they extend it to cover all plastics.
The move is expected to be welcomed by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, who lead the climate change battle and ocean preservation.
It is also likely to be supported by town councils.
NO TOUCH TALK
As the news of the suspension of a senior education officer for alleged sexual harassment spreads to education offices across the country, a new expression has been coined.
It is called “no touch”.
It warns employees against touching their colleagues because it could be misconstrued as sexual harassment. The suspended officer, who was suffering from back and neck pain, was being massaged by a female employee said to be a masseur, when the complainant saw them.
GOING HIGHER
Some disgruntled parents from a maritime school plan “to go higher” in their search for a resolution to their grievance.
They want their school’s head teacher moved out after an alleged incident at a school assembly.
After dealing with officers in the lower rung of the Ministry of Education, they are planning to refer the matter to the minister.
