Fiji Airways Customers Beware! San Francisco International Airport Renumbers All Gates
Fiji Airways frequent customers or customers planning to travel to San Francisco, USA be aware. There is an all-new gate numbering system.Yes that’s right! San Francisco International Airport introduced its new gate numbering system recently.
Fiji Airways flies to San Francisco from Nadi International Airport, three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from December to October. In November, it flies once a week on Saturday. According to a report by Simple
Flying, the Airport authorities believe that the new alphanumeric gate numbering system will help passengers navigate through the expansive airport more easily.
■San Francisco International Airport has released a handy map showing how the old and new gate numbering systems work.
■The previous gate numbering system was a continuous numbering system across all terminals and concourses, from 1 to 102.
■The new gate numbering system breaks it down to specific concourses within each terminal using an alpha-numeric format with a letter corresponding to the concourse (AG), and a sequential number relative to its location from the checkpoint to the end of the concourse.
■International Terminal A Gates are A1 – A15, and G Gates are G1 – G14
■Harvey Milk Terminal 1 B Gates are B1- B27, and C Gates are C1 – C11
■Terminal 2 D Gates are D1 – D18,
■ Terminal 3 E Gates are E1 – E13, and F Gates are F1 – F22 According to reports by Flight Global, the gate renumbering project cost US$8.9 million (FJ$19.47m) in total.
Updating the signage on more than 100 airport gates is no easy feat. Signs throughout the airport had to be updated simultaneously to ensure passengers weren’t getting lost or confused. According to Doug Yakel, San Francisco Airport’s Public Information officer, there were some additional systems that needed to be updated.
“We had to integrate how the airline systems talk to the airport systems, so there were technical systems that required some troubleshooting,” he said.
■The gate numbering changeover seems to have gone smoothly. All that’s left to do is update the signage on the tarmac.
■But that’s a far cry from the situation at San Francisco International Airport last month.
