First Of­fi­cer Gideon Leweniqila proud to be part of crew

Fiji Air­ways First Of­fi­cer Gideon Leweniqila said one of the proud­est mo­ments of his life was to bring home the air­line’s new Air­bus A350-900 XWBs.

First Of­fi­cer Leweniqila was part of the flight crew, con­sist­ing of Air­bus Cap­tain Ti­mothy Fur­ness and Fiji Air­ways se­nior pi­lot Cap­tain Mukesh Pa­tel, Chief Pi­lot Cap­tain Aaron Dean and Cap­tain Richard Yuen.

“It’s good to have been on board and fi­nally touch down in Nadi af­ter bring­ing the air­craft from Toulouse in France and three stopovers af­ter that,” he said.

“It is the first of its kind in the Pa­cific re­gion and is top of the range with the lat­est tech­nol­ogy.

“It is al­ways a plea­sure to come back to Fiji af­ter ev­ery flight,” the 32-year-old said. He added that the air­craft was a stand­out and he was priv­i­leged to have been part of the de­liv­ery crew.

■First Of­fi­cer Leweniqila is the son of the Cap­tain Henry Leweniqila.

■His fa­ther was among the early lo­cal jet pi­lots.

■He along with Cap­tain Sakeasi Rokovucago, Cap­tain Matereti Tuisue and the late Cap­tain Kava Kon­rote- flew with the na­tional air­line from the days of the 40-seater Hawker Sid­de­ley HS748s to cap­tain­ing the Boe­ing 747 jum­bos.
