Mum my inspiration says Bogidrau

- SHRATIKA NAIDU Edited by Naisa Koroi

Loata Bogidrau’s passion to become a nurse came from her mother, Akisi Vulavou, who is a registered nurse at the Lautoka Hospital.

The 21-year-old of Gunu, Naviti, in Yasawa said seeing her mother serving the sickly in the house when she was a child inspired her to follow her mother’s footsteps.

Amid the 110 graduates yesterday, Ms Bogidrau was the only person to receive the Leadership Award during the Sangam Institute of Technology Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation at the Labasa Civic Centre.

“My inspiration was and still is my mother, who is a Nurse Unit

Manager at the Lautoka Hospital,” the second eldest of five siblings said.

“The greatest drive of motivation was and still is my family whom I dedicate this achievement to.

“With their faces always at the back of my mind, I was able to endure all odds to make it out alive and graduate today.

“I want to acknowledge and thank the Almighty God who has been forever faithful and forever present, and has never left my side for these three years of learning. “Secondly, my parents, who are the backbone of my success and I will be forever in debt to them. Special thanks to my lecturers, siblings, friends and church members of Seventh-day Adventist.

“Having to leave home for the first time, was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. However, I had a purpose and a goal to achieve.

“Now I am happy to say there are two nurses in the family and no one needs to worry about health care.”
