COP REINSTATED

A Police Officer who was accused of murdering Kiuva villager Josua Lalauvaki has been reinstated in the Fiji Police Force.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

She said the officer, Ratu Selema Steven Dennis Tikoenaburevere, was reinstated after he was acquitted. Mr Tikoenaburevere was charged in connection with the death of Kiuva villager the late Mr Lalauvaki.

However, after the trial, Mr Tikoenaburevere was acquitted by the High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera in November last year.

It was alleged that Mr Tikoenaburevere, and a former Police Officer, allegedly assaulted Mr Lalauvaki after an altercation outside a Suva nightclub on September 2, 2018. Mr Lalauvaki died at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital on October 11, 2018, as a result of injuries he suffered from the alleged Police assault.

The former officer, Kelepi Duri Tautaumacala Kolinisau was convicted and sentenced for a lesser charge of manslaughter and was jailed for five years imprisonment with a non-parole period of three years and four months.
