Kabara Welcomes New Chaplain

- MAIKA BOLATIKI Edited by Ivamere Nataro

The Kabara Methodist Division has welcomed their first chaplain, Reverend Anasa Biturogo.

Peniasi Lomayasi, one of the Kalabu church elders who accompanied Rev Biturogo, said he was accorded a full traditional welcome ceremony.

During the ceremony, villagers expressed their joy and assured Rev Biturogo of their support.

Rev Biturogo is the 51st reverend for the Lau Division and is the first for the Kabara Methodist Division.

The Lau Division included Kabara, Komo, Lakeba, Moce Namuka and Nayau.

The Kabara division incorporates Kabara, Komo and Namukailau. Before his posting, Rev Biturogo was the chaplain of the Kalabu Methodist Church, which comes under the Naitasiri Methodist Division.

Kalabu chief Paula Rawiriwiri sent a delegation, led by Mr Lomayasi, to traditionally hand over Rev Biturogo.

The handover was at Tokalau village where Rev Biturogo would be staying.

Meanwhile, Mr Lomayasi said their only frustration was the delay of the MV Brianna, to take them to Kabara.

He said they were supposed to leave the Narain Jetty on January 7 but because of an engine problem we had to leave three days later.

“We could not leave the jetty to go back to their homes because Rev Biutoga and his family were already on board the vessel.” He said a directive was issued to the captain of the vessel to head straight to Tokalau village in Kabara, as members of the division were waiting for their new chaplain.
