Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School head girl Lasiana Danford believes in combating bullying in school.
She said bullying was unacceptable and would not be tolerated. “Punching and bullying will not bring anything to a student. Many children and young people carry the effects of bullying when they grow up,” she said.
Lasiana said she would work together with the school’s teachers to develop better skills for the students, and raise awareness on the impact of bullying.
The 13-year-old was inspired her dad, who is also a teacher.
“It is like a dream come true and I feel really proud and honoured after being badged as the school head girl,” she said.
Lasiana said the badge came with responsibility and she was ready to take up the challenge.
Head boy Remesio Waqaliva was not surprised with his appointment because he believes that through by
God’s grace he has made it this far.
“I will guide the students with positive discipline,” he said.
Remesio said his parents were proud of his achievements. He thanked the almighty God and his parents.
Chief Guest Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara reminded the prefects that a leader was not a person who commanded and ordered, but a person who inspired and motivated others.
Magistrate Wickramasekara said a leader should be a person who was willing to think and act for others.
“Wearing that badge is to make you a person that seeks out and confronts problems, and thinks to do things for others, who may not be able to do them by themselves,” he said.
The school has a roll of 1200 students.
Ninety-eight prefects were inducted on Friday, February 7, 2020.
