Court demands evidence

High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe has ordered Prosecutio­n to obtain evidence of Geeta Anjana Chandar’s residentia­l address, who is one of the two sisters charged with traffickin­g. Seta Sanjana Ram appeared before Justice Rajasinghe at the High Court in Suva yesterday while co-accused, Chandar resides in Australia.

The two sisters face 17 counts of traffickin­g in persons, 16 counts of obtaining property by deception and two counts of money laundering.

Office of the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns State prosecutor Swastika Sharma told the court that the Police officers had checked Chandar’s address, and Immigratio­n records showed that she lived in Australia.

Justice Rajasinghe told the prosecutio­n that the court needed to have evidence of the accused person living in Australia.

He told prosecutio­n that the Police had to provide evidence that Chandar resided in Australia.

The matter has been adjourned to March 30, and bail for Ram has been further extended.
