The Fiji Airways Flying Fijians are still ranked 11th in the world. This was according to the latest rankings released by World Rugby.

The Flying Fijians under new head coach Vern Cotter who arrives in July, start their Test matches against the Australian Wallabies on July 18 in Townsville. While there were few surprises in the Six Nations in terms of results with home wins for Ireland and France and a victory for England against the lower-ranked Scotland, the same cannot be said of the Rugby Europe Championship where Romania and Russia were on the wrong side of upsets.

GEORGIA ON THE MOVE

Barely three months since they competed at Rugby World Cup 2019, Russia succumbed to a 38-12 defeat to Belgium in Brussels on Saturday, while Romania went down 2211 to newly-promoted Portugal in Lisbon.

However, Georgia came through unscathed the following day against a Spain team bidding to create history and playing in front of a sizeable and vocal home crowd in Madrid.

Defending champions Georgia move above Italy and into 12th position in the rankings as a result of the victory – their 12th in a row in the Rugby Europe Championship.

WORLD CUP EFFECT

Last year’s Rugby World Cup champions South Africa are ranked at the top spot with 94.14 points followed by New Zealand with 92.11 while England are third with 87.80.

RWC hosts Japan with their quarterfinal finish are at 8th spot while Pacific teams Samoa are ranked at 15th spot while the Tongans are at 14.
