Schools Join Forces To Beat Costs
Three schools in the Tebara joined forces to hold their inter-house competition at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday. Nakasi High School staged their inter-house competition while Davuilevu Methodist High School and Noco High School didn’t hold theirs but instead gave the opportunity for their athletes to utilise the Stadium facilities.
Nakasi High School principal Parveen Chand said this was a form of saving costs while increasing the competition amongst the three schools.
Chand said they aim to increase their number of athletes participation in the Nasinu, Nausori and Naitasiri Zone also known as the Triple N Zone.
“To qualify for the zone there is a standard and timing criteria that all schools will need to follow,” Chand said.
“We want to take more athletes this year and with the combined inter-house, the students have shown interest in participating this year.
“We want to take 30 athletes to the zone alone but it will depend on the time and distances set by the students.”
Yellow House were crowned the winners of the inter-house as they bagged 32 gold medals, 16 silvers and 6 bronze. Red House were second with 21 gold, 10 silvers and 19 bronze medals.
Green House were third with 18 gold medals, 11 silvers and 14 bronze medals while Blue House had 12 gold medals, 19 silvers and 9 bronze.
Davuilevu Methodist High School PEMAC teacher Josefa Daunabou said though the school did not hold their inter-house but having their students participate had been a good exposure.
“This is the first time for us to have our athletes at the stadium and we have had a positive response from the students,” Daunabou said. “Right now we will go back and reassess the areas we have to work on, but we are looking at taking 47 athletes to the Triple N zone.”
