MP TABUYA CAUGHT OUT

■ A-G quotes her comments that say ‘The Fear that coronavirus has no cure and is airborne is very real and very valid from the People of Navua, Serua and Namosi’

- ILAIJIA RAVUWAI SUVA

Opposition Whip Lynda

Tabuya was caught out in Parliament yesterday over the coronavirus debate.

The Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said that Ms Tabuya had said that coronavirus was being airborne…and that it was just a post.

She was referring to a petition opposing the use of Navua Hospital as a quarantine centre.

He said that her comment read “… agreed absolutely, but why not set up in Makogai or Nukulau, isolated from the population?

“Why not use the medical ship for this purpose? The fear that coronavirus has no cure and is airborne is very real and very valid from the people of Navua, Serua and Namosi.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said“Mr

Speaker Sir that was her post,” he added.

However, in a point of order, Ms Tabuya claimed that: “If only the Honorable Attorney-General knows how Facebook works, that was a petition that was shared by myself.”

She went on to say that “these were not my own words but a petition that was filed not by myself.”

“So, he needs to correct that, he needs to understand how Facebook works and it is shared- shared is different from having your own comments.

“He can learn too. That is how Facebook works, and I still stand by that, it was not my statement, it was a petition that I shared, by the author who is not myself. Ms Tabuya had in fact commented using her own words in support of the petition, which she had shared in an earlier post. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum correctly quoted her on her comments.
