Ratu Vuniyani calls on students to engage in constructive debates
The Model United Nations (UN) Conference is the platform for inclusivity, change, awareness and sustainability.
Tui Nadi Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci made the statement during the opening of the two-day inaugural Western Division Model UN Conference at the Denarau Convention Centre yesterday.
The conference is hosted by International School Nadi with the theme “The Cause for Freedom”. Ratu Vuniyani told school reps that their engagement was crucial because they would discuss global issues representing the UN in a way to find solutions to problems through constructive debates.
“It is important to see such an alliance of a group of young adults engage in dialogue regarding global issues together representing the United Nations,” Ratu Vuniyani said.
“People from different background s coming together to find solutions to problems through constructive debates and exchange of ideas.” He added that the event was a stepping stone to open minds with fresh ideas.
“Open-mindedness is the essence of diplomacy, the ability to understand and analyse all positions.”
He said the platform would crucially prove their leadership role in the 21st Century because it created change, awareness, reinforcement and sustainability.
Ratu Vuniyani encouraged students to be the catalyst for change by creating social networks.
“As leaders of the future, you can come up with innovative approaches to help confront the challenges facing the global community.”
The conference is spearheaded by International School Nadi, International Baccalaureate diploma students, Tanisha Chada as secretary general and Talei Puamau as deputy secretary general with the assistance of volunteer students from International School Nadi.
The participating schools include Nadi Muslim College, Natabua High School, Swami Vivekananda College, International School Suva (ISS) and International School Nadi (ISN).
