Fiji Institute of Pacific Health Research Strategic Plan launch
The Holiday Inn, Suva, yesterday played host to the launch of the Fiji Institute of Pacific Health Research (FIPHR) Strategic Plan 2020-2025. This was part of the Fiji National University (FNU), College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS). The launch was been designed to support and ensure that the college’s research grows substantially, and to align their research activities. This is so that they are relevant and responsive to the needs of governments in the region and Pacific island countries as a whole.
CMNHS Dean William May said during the launch the strategic plan was to guide its overall direction and activities over the next five years.
“It is an exciting season for our college as we depart in a planned way from our previous businessas-usual research activities, from which we have learned so much and through which achieved so much,” he said.
Mr May said this was also a significant milestone for the college for innovative changes.
“We are already seeing momentum building for change in the endorsement of the Institute’s new structure.”
FIPHR comprised of:
A Research Training and Repository Unit An administration arm
The Pacific Research Centre for the Prevention of Obesity and Non-Communicable Diseases
Pacific Sexual Reproductive and Health Research Centre Centre for Health Information
Policies and Systems Research
Communicable Diseases Research
Centre a Research Centre for other health challenges prioritised by FIPHR that do not fall under one of these Centres
The newly-appointed Associate Dean Research, Donald Wilson said the strategic plan was an opportunity for the college as a whole to increase its involvement in carrying out health research.
