‘Step Up And Make A Mark’
Aproperty developer has urged other developers and the construction industry to rise above the gloom of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis and stimulate the economy.
Western Homes Limited(WHL) managing director Bobby Khan said if more construction was carried out, more people would get employed and the economy wheels would continue to churn, iunstead of grinding to appear-halt.
Warehouse construction
Mr Khan, who is continuing the construction of his second set of 10 warehouses and an investment of $4 million on the Nadi Back Road, said work should finish before the end of the year.
“I will actually be looking to hire more people within the next two weeks to work on the project,” Mr Khan said.
Mr Khan said all his 55 workers continued to work even as the industry struggled from the impact of COVID-19.
“The new warehouse will feature WHL’s head office, he said.
Mr Khan said the new complex would offer affordable rental terms considering the present economic climate.
“Rent will range from $2000 to $8000 for the bigger warehouses. “What I have done with this project is to cater for all business, whether small or big so there is something in it for everyone.
“This construction was preplanned about two years ago.
Even though the crisis has made it hard for everyone, I am continuing with the project until it is ready.
“No matter what happens we need to continue doing this, because I strongly believe in that light at the end of the tunnel.
“This is the time for people who are into developing properties and construction companies to lead the way in helping our economy get back on its feet.
“If we all join hands and get the industry going, more jobs would be created and less people would be staying at home.
“This will be our way of helping people who have lost their jobs,to at least find some work in this industry, so that they could take home something for their families.
“So I urge these industry leads to step up now and make a mark.”
Governmet during COVID-19
Meanwhile, Mr Khan praised the outstanding work carried out by the Government, in particularly the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Police Force, during this present crisis.
“We have a smart Government in place, and it shows with the way we have handled the situation,” he said. Mr Khan’s first warehouse complex which was opened in November last year cost $6 million.
