Teachers and Businesses Reach Out to Families
Teachers at a rural school in Macuata reached out to families in the Dreketi lockdown area yesterday with assistance. Seaqaqa Muslim Primary School manager Mohammed Janab said the assistance was made possible through a joint programme with the Seaqaqa Shopping Centre and Nazia’s Hire Services and Sawmilling.
“The teachers willingly contributed as this is the month of Ramadan and in this lockdown area we have one of our teachers, Master Solo,” Mr Janab said.
The assistance included basic food items to help those families observing fasting, and also those who don’t have a source of income. He said about 100 households were assisted through this programme.
Seaqaqa Shopping Centre director Hasim Khan said they have been continuously assisting the families in the lockdown area for the past two weeks.
“I am happy to help them out as they are our neighbours and the focus of our company is to serve those in need and put a smile on the children as we observe the holy week of Ramadan,” he said.
“I would like to thank the teachers who have gone out of their way and director Shaan Ali of Nazia’s Hire Services and Sawmilling for their contribution.”
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 lockdown was enforced on April 16 after Patient 17 of Vunicagi Settlement was admitted at the Labasa Hospital.
