Samisoni praises Rabuka’s proposal
She commended the SODELPA leader’s effort to call a working committee meeting to look into the party issues and ensure that the party’s constitution serves the people.
Businesswoman and politician, Mere Samisoni, has acknowledged the proposal by SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, for a working group committee to look into the party issues.
This, she said, would ensure that the party’s constitution served the people.
“Thank you Siti (Rabuka) for taking responsibility of the leadership and bringing back the purpose of the party, which is to look after the party and not themselves,” Ms Samisoni said.
She claims that problems started within the party when its leaders started making everything personal.
“The party is structured where we have a constitution and, in that constitution, we have a vision, mission, objectives and values. They have got to align,” Ms Samisoni said.
“Values for me is about transparency, accountability to our customers.
“All leaders must ensure that that is carried out. It is not a personal matter. It is a role matter. The role is you don’t own it, you’re
there for the objectives and the strategies of the party and you serve that. Once you start to own that role that is when you’re going to get the rift.”
She is optimistic about the future of SODELPA and stresses the need for transparency and accountability in the systems and processes.
“We’ve got to make sure that the corruption is thrown out,” she said.
“We wanted the party to solve the problem, to analyse their role the vision, mission and systems in place. We were not happy with their change in constitution and some of the systems that weren’t followed.
“I was on the finance committee and I didn’t like some of the things that they were doing but they wouldn’t listen to me.
“They wouldn’t listen to the treasurer and then we had the Nawari Report which is going to come up.”
Ms Samisoni said the party now needed to re-examine the leadership of SODELPA.
