Medical Fraternity Mourns Loss of Dr Litiana Browne
The medical fraternity is mourning the loss of a long time locally renowned obstetrics and gynecology specialist Dr Litiana Browne. She passed away after a short illness last week. Dr Browne as she was affectionately known, spent a great deal of her career serving in the public and private health sector for more than 40 years.
Retired head matron and midwife of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital Maternity unit, Alioate Galuvakadua said the late Dr Browne was someone that was a very strong advocate for women’s health. “She was committed to that passion and that was her priority during her term as a Gynecologist at the CWM Hospital which continued on to when she worked in her private clinic,” Ms Galuvakadua said.
“For us Dr Browne’s colleagues, we looked forward to working with her every single day because we shared the same commitment and that was prioritising women’s health,” she said.
Ms Galuvakadua said she was first introduced to Dr Browne in 1995 during her midwifery training.
“She was part of the medical team at the CWM Hospital, and she was one of our midwifery tutor that coordinated and examined us very closely during our practical while training to become a midwife.
“She was strict and very detailed, she would always tell us that she wanted us to acquire the skills correctly in looking after pregnant women up until birth.
“That was how much she loved and was committed to serving women to the best of her ability.
“Back then we were always fearful of approaching her because she was particular as she wanted us to perform and do exceptionally well in our studies.
“She had influenced us in many ways. Today we became the best in what we did because of her guidance.”
Dr Litiana Browne will be laid to rest today after a thanksgiving service at her residence in Waila.
