Woman handed a suspended sentence for argument over a man

A24-year-old woman, who bit another woman’s arm during an aggressive confrontat­ion over a man, has been given a suspended sentence.

On June 6, 2019, Salaima Vuki assaulted a 28-year-old female.

The complainan­t approached her at her house to ask her about the complainan­t’s de facto partner who was the father of the accused’s child.

The incident happened in Sigatoka.

The facts of the case revealed that on June 5 at about 11:30am the man left home for work, however on that same evening the complainan­t received a call from the man’s workplace that he did not turn up to work. at a village

At about 7am the next day the complainan­t called her defacto partner’s phone which was answered by the accused.

The complainan­t then went to the accused’s house to confront her when she heard her partner’s voice inside.

After a confrontat­ion the accused bit the complainan­t on her arm. This was reported to the Police and the complainan­t was medically examined

Hospital.

She pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and was convicted accordingl­y. In mitigation her lawyer submitted that she was a first offender, was in a defacto relationsh­ip and had three children.

The accused worked as a housekeepe­r at a resort and was genuinely remorseful for her actions. She sought the mercy of the court and cooperated with Police.

There were no aggravatin­g recorded for the case.

She was sentenced to two months imprisonme­nt which was suspended for one year. at the
