The Fiji Rugby Union is closely monitoring Fijians playing in the Super Rugby Aotearoa which kicks off next week Saturday.

Fiji Airways Flying Fijians head coach Vern Cotter has been tasked to approach the players again on their availability.

“I know Flying Fijians coach Vern Cotter will be watching Super Rugby Aotearoa next week in New Zealand so we will leave it to him to approach them,” FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor said.

“We approached Hoskins Sotutu, George Bower, Peter Gus Toakula and Manasa Mataele with other Fijian boys last year. But they were not available because of their Super Rugby contracts.

“That’s an advantage of having a New Zealander in Cotter who is there at the moment. With the competition kicking off Saturday he will not only monitor the Super Rugby players but others involved in the Mitre 10 Cup competition.” Training Tough: Sotutu Meanwhile, Blues number eight said the lockdown was no relaxation for him and his teammates. He is the son of 1999 Rugby World Cup Fiji vice–captain Waisake Sotutu.

He told Blues Rugby: “We knew we are coming back to play Super Rugby so we don’t want to come back sloppier.

“During the lockdown I and some of my mates enjoyed playing FIFA on PlayStation.

“I joined the team for the first time last night and it was great. “I went to check my nutrition to make sure that I’m eating because I missed out a couple of times. “Training was tough and good but as long as you get breaks in between and adapt to the change. “The lockdown was pretty hard but I got motivated sometimes.”
