With 500 days to go until the opening fixture of the Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021), tournament organisers have announced where teams will be based for next years’ tournament.

The Yorkshire city of Hull will be home to the Vodafone Fijian Bati side.

The Bati are hoping to go a step further after missing out to Australia in the 2008, 2013 and 2018 World Cup semi-finals. The city will be hosting two men’s games, including a quarter-final, at the KCOM Stadium.

Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) acting chief executive, Don Natabe said, the announcement was an exciting one and they look forward to share cultural experiences.

“It is exciting as it can ever be to call City of Hull home for the 2021 RLWC,” he said yesterday.

“Fijians have a celebrated connection to the city through Sivaniolo Naulago, who plays for the Hull FC and although he is leaving for Bristol Bears,

“I know the people are looking forward to more Fijians twist and flair during the World Cup.

“We have a talented pool of Fiji Bati players who now look forward to world selection in the next 15 months.

“We are excited to take to Hull our Fijian culture and make a memorable experience for the community there. Now our worldwide Fiji Bati followers can plan ahead.”

The RLWC will be from October 23November 27, 2021

Jon Dutton, RLWC2021 chief executive, said: “We expect the Fiji team to bring their famous traditions and passion to the city of Hull, as they look to go one step further after 2017. The current UK City of Culture will be the perfect home for the Bati.” The squads from the 21 unique nations and 32 teams will be based in different locations.
