FLEA MARKET IS ANSWER TO PASTOR’S PRAYERS
The VotCity Flea Market in Nadi has been a godsend for Pastor Maca Tabuya. Just as the flea market has recently become a hit in Nadi, Pastor Tabuya’s delicious lemon meringue pies are a treat not to be missed as well. Mrs Tabuya, who is a full-time pastor and entrepreneur at the Assemblies of God Church in Nadi, is operating a stall at the flea market in Votualevu.
“I had started an online baking business, but never had time for it because we are always busy,” the 30-year-old said.
However, when the COVID-19 pandemic crisis hit, it helped rekindle her interest in her baking business. “Sewing was also an interest which I have. It’s a dream I have been putting on hold and finally have time to pursue. I took a sewing class for two weeks. My pie sales at flea market paid for the class.” Pastor Tabuya said it took good time management and sacrifices to make her dream a reality.
She said her lemon meringue pies have been a big hit at the flea market. She credits her creativity to divine power.
“I pray about what new things to do. It was an inspiration that came from the Holy Spirit.
“Lemon meringue popped up since my husband doesn’t really enjoy overly sweet pastries and now it’s a hit on flea market days. “I am still overwhelmed with the response to it. Now we have added other things to it.”
She said there were days she felt discouraged about sales, but she reminded herself never to give up and to keep moving forward.
“My husband has been so helpful in prep and doing shopping ahead of time,” she said.
Mrs Tabuya said VotCity Flea Market was the answer to prayers for most of the vendors as it had given them a platform to not only showcase their talents and creativity, but also provided a place where they could help others.
She said it was one of the best initiatives by the Nadi Town Council.
