When You Help Community, Community Helps You: Fitou
France remains one of Fiji’s important strategic partners, contributing much to all areas of cooperation. Government chief of protocol Tiko Rasoqosoqo made the statement during Bastille Day that was held at Thurston Gardens on Saturday.
Mr Rasoqosoqo said Fiji and France shared a longstanding and excellent relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1970.
“Fiji has benefited enormously from France in the area of Climate Change, defense, and sports to list a few,” Mr Rasoqosoqo said.
“The timely assistance of the Government of France towards the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Harold and the COVID-19 pandemic is a statement to this enduring friendship.
“We are assured that this shall not only continue, but strengthen in many years to come.”

“The first thing I learned this year is that when you help the community, the community will help you.
“The second thing is that we cannot go back but move forward. We are blessed to be in Fiji where the community is willing to give back when you give to them.” Bastille Day is the French National Day. It is the anniversary of Storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution, as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790.
