Bible-Inspired Salon offers Free Haircut
Ahair salon in Nadi is offering free haircuts to 50 students every Friday and Saturday.
Inspired by the Book of Proverbs in the Bible, PROV 31 Hair & Beauty Salon owner, Paulina Moceacagi, said the initiative helped children whose parents were affected by the pandemic.
Free haircuts started last weekend with 30 students covered within the two days.
The 46-year-old said the cash donation from her friend, Veniana Gaunavinaka, whom she had known when they joined Youth with A Mission (YWAM), would help with the free haircut.
“When our sponsors agreed to this initiative, we decided to put it up on our Facebook page ( PROV
31 Hair & Beauty Salon). This is important for us in a way to reach out to the community especially in the hard time that we are going through,” said the mother of six.
About the business:
The $65,000 investment opened in December last year, and operating it through this crisis has been a challenge.
Ms Moceacagi said they had reduced the cost of haircut for normal days because of the pandemic. “I want to thank the landlord for reducing the rent. I had laid off four staff because of the pandemic and a big reduction of clients,” she said.
“I still have three staff, two hairdressers and a beautician, who are helping in the business, which also is a great help to them in meeting there financial needs.”
What sets her business apart from other similar trade, she said, was that not only did they promote outward beauty, but also beauty within.
“My salon is called PROV 31 as in Proverbs 31 from verse 10-31. It talks about the influence of a virtous woman in marriage, family and community. It not only applies to women but also in men to bring beauty out from within. We had prayed together with my friend about the name of the salon.”
She acknowledged the support of her husband, William Moceacagi, who served as a captain for Fiji Airways for 38 years.
PROV 31 Hair & Beauty Salon is situated at the entrance of Nadi Town, opposite the Mobil Service Station.
