Mazey Firm On Accreditation
There will be no competitions for sporting federations that did not apply for their Safe Sports Fiji accreditation, says Peter Mazey. The Fiji National Sports Commission executive chairman revealed 25 sports were accredited by July 9. Other sports like rugby league and hockey would be accredited this week provided they meet the requirements. “It is sad that handball and powerlifting did not hand in their application,”Mazey said. “Sporting federations that fails to comply will not have any competitions. Fiji Hockey Federation president Dr Robin Mitchell confirmed they submitted their application last Friday. “They extended the deadline so we managed to compile and submit it,” he said. “They have notified us that they have received our application.” Fiji National Rugby League acting chief executive officer Don Natabe said the accreditation timeline would not affect their sporting calendar. “We were yet to satisfy the hard working panel of assessors and hopefully the outcome will be favourable this time around,” he said. Natabe confirmed they submitted their application last Friday.
“The accreditation timeline has not affected our post COVID-9 events which will be announced later this week,” he added.
All sporting organisations were warned on the importance of maintaining hygiene and follow guidelines during tournaments and competitions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
