The Suva Volleyball Association is expecting more clubs to join their weekly competition in September.

After receiving their accreditation, the Fiji Volleyball Federation is working with the SVA in adapting on the new norm.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, SVA president, Kemueli Naiqama said they are excited of having the new clubs joining them.

“Currently, we have 17 clubs playing in the competition- six women’s clubs and 11 men’s clubs,” he said.

“‘There were a lot of clubs that have showed interest in joining us as soon as possible.

“We are looking forward to these clubs joining us and the numbers will rise.”

“The clubs are updated through our social media platform, so they’re informed of what is ahead of them, their registration fees and competition dates.

“For Suva Volleyball we are following the Fiji Volleyball Federation’s

sporting calendar which is from October, this year to June, next year.

“We intend to start one month before that,” he said

“First is to train our officials in September and do the necessary technical training so they are aware of the change of rules and the critical role they play. This is to prepare them when the game starts.

“We’ll be holding three friendly games between September and October that is three consecutive Saturdays.

“On the fourth Saturday of September we will be holding our knockout competition.

“After the friendly games we will than roll the competition proper when teams are categorised in their pools based on the results of the knockout games.

“We intend to roll out our weekly competition from October and prepare towards the competitions run by the federation.”
