Enrich Projects (Fiji) Pte Limited Executive General Manager, Keshwa Nand is calling on support for a free lunch initiative for school children, which would last until the end of 2020.

Mr Nand said it was an important initiative for the company to assist people living in desperate situations.

“At the beginning of the school term, I decided to reach out to schools and identify students in need we could assist,” he said.

“This assistance would be through the provision of a healthy lunch provided daily until the end of 2020.” He said a friend and business colleague from Sydney, Australia, Fred Khoury, from Access Group Solutions Pty Ltd, had also supported the initiative.

“Reports suggest 35,000 students come from families where one or more parents have lost work.”

Mr Nand said the company had been assisting Fijians over the years.

“We don’t do this for publicity or advertising. We do this because we want to make a small difference in some one’s life in a positive way,” he said.

For 10 years, the company has been assisting schools in Vatia in Tavua, Viria in Naitasiri and Vunisea in Kadavu. The company is also assessing if students required other support such as school supplies for the 2021 academic year.

In addition to the financial commitment, their staff in Fiji have also volunteered to help prepare the lunches. Nadi Primary School head teacher, Avinesh Lingam, acknowledged the help given the parents were hotel industry workers.

“They are the first NGO to assist us and we are hoping for more because it would be a great help for these students. Ninety-two students were actually provided with lunch,” Mr Lingnam said.
