The construction work of the Wailevu District office in Cakaudrove Province will begin soon.

It has been on hold since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tui Wailevu Ratu Jovesa Balavu Maivalili had given his piece of land for this project, which is located near Wailevu Village.

He said only the clearing of land had been done.

“We took the initiative to build our own office,” Ratu Jovesa said. “The construction of one building will have a District Office, Mini Health Centre, and one Education Office with a kindergarten.”

He said the cost of this project would be around $30,000 to $70,000. “We want to provide a centralised service in one area for Wailevu District,” he said.

“This district has 28 Yavusa (tribes) and approximately 6363 people.”

The project will benefit the people of Wailevu District in many ways such as accessing information and Government services.

He could not confirm when this project wiould be completed as they planned to use their own natural resources to help build this office.

Meanwhile, he has advised each family to plant 500 yaqona as an income-generating project.

“We can’t predict what will happen in the future as this pandemic continues,” he said.

“However, we can prepare ourselves by using up land for food security.”

The construction of one building will have a District Office, Mini Health Centre, and one Education Office with a kindergarten.
