‘A good newspaper is a nation talking to itself’

- Suva

Be Thankful Dharmendra Kumar,

The Opposition continues to sing the same tune over and over again: “Government has no money”. Even birds start a new day with a new song. The lyric is simply boring to hear now. I wonder what the Opposition would have done if they are in Government. One in particular has nil experience in running a Government while the other has a miserable record.

During a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic almost all countries borrow to stimulate the economy. It is understandable after losing billions in revenue. It is rather unfortunate that every statement they make is politically motivated towards the 2022 general election.

There are no civil servant pay cuts, free school fees and the bus fare scheme still continues. The Social Welfare pension continues after rectification. Scholarships are continuing after being fine tuned. Every citizen has equal rights under the Constitution. The list goes on and on.

Why so much negativity? This pandemic has dragged on for a long time but it won’t last forever.

The Government is doing excellent work in containing COVID-19. In fact Fiji has been identified as one of the safest places to travel to pending the reopening of the borders. One must realise that we have had several severe cyclones and now the pandemic. I wonder what these people would have done if they faced these situations if they had won the previous elections and were in Government? The answers are in their own responses.

One thing is for certain, if FijiFirst was not in Government, there would definitely be pay cuts for civil servants. Every policy would be changed for the benefit of the elite few. Fijians are smart and they know who cares and who is playing politics with their lives.

At some point we will move past the health scare of the coronavirus, unfortunately some are seriously inflicting damage to our economy . They are trying their uttermost best to cripple the Fiji Airways and tarnish the image of the Fiji National Provident Fund.

Fijians must thank Government that our dollar has not been devalued unlike previous Governments. Let’s show our gratitude and appreciation to those that are in leadership because they were chosen by the people and ordained by God.

Airports and Economies Floyd Robinson, Suva

Having recently travelled through Nausori Airport, I had the awkward experience of realising that airports are no longer the same.

What used to be a booming facility is now a slow facility.

All is quite that sometimes it seems one is passing through a desert. Unfortunately, this is a global reality and our airports are not an exception. All in all, the meaning of our airports has changed. One hopes that a vaccine for the Coronavirus is found sooner as our airports play an important role in our economies. like
