HFC Bank donated stationery to the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC Fiji) last Thursday. HFC Bank, general manager credit, Bimal Sudhaka, said this assistance is the bank’s vision to provide fundamental educational tools to the neediest children in Fiji. “During this pandemic with the economy adjusting to the new normal, a fair amount of families are still striving to provide educational materials to their child’s adolescent development,” he said.

“Our value is called heart; we did not put a dollar value to it,” said Mr. Sudhaka.

FENC Fiji officer in charge, Priya Lata, said FENC Fiji was committed to improving the situations of the families of the poorest of the poor by investing in their children’s education.

“FENC Fiji has assisted more than 18,000 children in the past 10 years,” Ms Lata said.

“Students are monitored through their school report and consultation with parents/ guardians and teachers.

“Our desire is to see our children continuing to tertiary level hence increasing the literacy level for Fiji thus making Fiji a knowledgeable society.”

FENC Fiji has 200 families around Levuka under this assistance.

Donated stationery included books, writing colouring books, pens, bags and text books.

FENC Fiji data officer, Moritikei Baleivuya, said the stationery drive was set up to seek donations to help fund the education needs of children from unprivileged backgrounds.

“Those who have been affected by COVID-19, just to equip the child to school, that’s where we step in,” said Mr Baleivuya.

“We don’t actually force ourselves in, they come to request for assistance.

“Sometimes we do out-reach because they are not able to reach us.” materials,
