Digicel Fiji Grant $50K For Community Projects
Celebrate with Digicel! Digicel Fiji is giving $50,000 worth of grants for community projects around Fiji.
This is to mark the nation’s 50th Independence celebrations next month.
Digicel Fiji chief executive officer, Farid Mohammed, said: “As we remember our 50th Independence, this is the initiative that will support our local community.”
The idea, he said could be on health, education, youth empowerment, sustainable living, community safety services and many others that Digicel could help with. “We want to invest something for the long term to benefit community as a whole,” Mr Mohammed said.
“We want our people to make a difference in their communities and we are supporting them to start their own development projects.
“We know there are many ideas to see communities uplift, and we want to hear from you, so we can help with funding to address these issues.
“We have opened the applications and gave opportunities to people to submit their ideas for a project that will benefit their community.” Mr Mohammed said: “We know there are ideas in the community, but there’s lack of support in terms of funding to make those ideas turn into reality.
“We are here to support some brilliant minds out there that have those great ideas and make it a reality.”
Corporate social responsibility
He said Digicel has been involved heavily in various community projects since 2008.
These including relief supplies during natural disasters, refurbishment of the Suva CWM Hospital maternity ward, and support for the Fiji Heart Foundation, WOWS – Fiji Cancer Kids, United Blind Persons and $100,000 cash sponsorship for Team Fiji Special Olympics for last year’s World Games.
“We are still continuing as part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said.
“We saw the 50th Independence as a good opportunity for us to bring something for our people.” He said they wanted to support every community and to provide much needed help to the people. “We want to empower, help, support and positively impact the lives of those in our communities. “This is difficult times especially with the impact of COVID-19, and we want to bring back some sense of hope, confidence in our local
communities.
“Digicel Fiji is here to the communities in the ment of the nation.
“We are looking at many applications. We will assess and the team will decide on the amount support developrequired.”
