Drowning cases, alarming

-

Kirti Patel, Lautoka

The recent drowning cases are really alarming. In a short span of time, number of drowning took toll. It is like becoming a norm which is very unpleasant and sad. Students are telling lies, and escaping school to go for a swim.

This is just so unfortunate.

Who would have thought that telling lies for a swim could lead those two brothers in losing their lives?

I hope this comes as a wakeup call for both parents and children. We cannot stop children from telling lies but having proper communication channel and having discussions in an amicable way, where children can confide with their parents are very important. Understanding our children’s behavior is very important.

Blaming anyone is not going to sort out this tragedy scenario’s from unfolding, but what can be done about it is very vital.

Too many lives lost to drowning is not good at all. Precious lives that could have been the future leaders have gone because of careless decision.

Let’s hope there is more awareness, but in a way that it reaches the mind and soul of individuals. There is no point in having awareness done just for the sake of it or just for formality.

How one reaches out to people with their stern message is very important.

We cannot allow this practice to keep emerging. Swimming classes and parental discussions to start off with and the rest will come automatically in line.

After all, we are surrounded by the ocean and one never knows when swimming can come in handy. Let’s be proactive.
