Lynda challenges recommendation to invalidate Nasinu AGM
Arecommendation to invalidate the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) Nasinu Constituency’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) was challenged by Nasinu Constituency President, Lynda Tabuya, during the party’s Management Board meeting yesterday.
The working committee had resolved to invalidate the election results of the constituency’s AGM due to alleged irregularities on the appointment processes. SODELPA general secretary, Emele Duituturaga, said that despite the recommendation by the working committee, the constituency stood their ground and challenged the decision.
“There were allegations received on the process they took during their elections but I think Nasinu has a right to redress and the working committee will also fully look into the allegation, that’s the process that will be followed.”
Ms Tabuya said the decision of the working committee to nullify their AGM was not valid.
“The results of our AGM that was held last week stands.
“So we need an independent arbiter to make decisions and we will come back to the management board.”
MEMBERS RAISE GRIEVANCES
SODELPA caretaker leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, said some members were not happy that the working committee failed to reach a decision about the grievances. Yesterday, the management board decided to appoint committees and arbiters to address the matter. “There have been a lot of differences in views but we have gone into the suspension period where we had to resort to a task force which is not constitutional,” Mr Rabuka said.
“Some of the grievances raised today (yesterday) were about the selection of their management board members and some were alleged to have made decisions and selections at the wrong forum. Those will be dealt with by the arbiter.”
