Bonus win for Naitasiri
The Naitasiri rugby team secured a vital bonus point win heading into the 11th round of the Skipper Cup Premiership competition next week.
A very impressive Highlanders outfit outclassed defending Farebrother –Sullivan Trophy holders Namosi 2515 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.
Ilaitia Tuisese Junior said the team played to plan.
“We had nothing else in mind but to win, we’ve been preparing well this week,” he said.
“I told the boys at halftime to maintain the tempo and raise their game to another level.
“Namosi is a champion side and to beat them at home is a bonus going forward.
“Now we will have our video review on Monday and work on our mistakes and get ready for Nadroga.” What Happened: Both teams started strongly and the Naitasiri forwards muscled their way to the tryline in the 9th minute through captain Sireli Kaloucava to take a 5-0 lead.
Namosi had an opportunity in the 13th minute but failed the execution. The visitors scored in the 20th minute through wing Tira Walagi to level the score 5- 5.
Naitasiri started dominating the scrum and the backline came alive that saw wing Tomasi Vula scoring in the corner to take a 10-5 lead.
The Highlanders scored again in the 39th minute through Temo Raibevu to take a 15-5 lead.
Halftime 15-5:
Naitasiri meant business in the second half scoring early through wing Seveci Nakailagi who intercepted the ball and the kick was converted by Kini Douglas to take a 22- 5. Namosi replied with a try to captain Sakiusa Nadruku in the 50th minute to close the deficit 22-10. Naitasiri was awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute that was converted by Douglas to take a 25-10 lead.Namosi replied with a try to wing Tira Walagi 25-15.” com.fj
