A HEAVY RAIN WARNING IS NOW IN FORCE FOR VITI LEVU, YASAWA AND MAMANUCA GROUP, KADAVU AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, SOUTHERN LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP.
Situation: A trough of low pressure lies over the country and is expected to further intensify tonight. Associated cloud and rain bands are expected to affect most parts of the group from tonight.
Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji Group: For eastern half of Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller island, Southern Lau and Lomaviti group: Cloudy periods with some showers today. Showers becoming frequent from tonight and increasing to rain with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms from early morning tomorrow.
For the rest of Viti Levu: Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms today. Showers expected from later tonight and increasing to rain with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls from tomorrow afternoon.
For the rest of Fiji: Some showers over the eastern parts of Vanua Levu and Taveuni. Isolated afternoon and evening showers elsewhere today. Occasional showers with few thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls expected tomorrow. Showers possibly increasing to rain. Isolated heavy falls expected. Isolated heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas. Moderate to fresh southeast winds. Winds gradually turning and becoming east to northeast from later tonight. Expect gusty winds during heavy falls and thunderstorms. Moderate to rough seas.
Outlook for tomorrow: Some showers over the eastern parts and interior of the larger islands. Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms expected elsewhere.
