BOY NEEDS SURGERY AFTER HE WAS INJURED AT TOM’S WORLD

A father is reminding parents that if they intend to take their children to an entertainment venture they should first check whether the equipment used is safe for children to use.

This is after his five-year-old son was injured at Tom’s World in Suva’s Damodar City a week ago.

Andy Gue said his son, Jasper Gue was playing with one of the equipment when a metal hook clip ripped through his pants and injured his scrotum.

“The carousel type equipment was usually used by my children. Jasper and my wife were at Tom’s World on that day,” Mr Gue said.

“Not even two minutes into playing, Jasper started shouting. The hook had clipped onto his private parts.”

Mr Gue said the staff at the entertainment centre and his wife tried to free Jasper but not without him getting injured. Mr Gue said the initial cost of the surgery was borne by the entertainment company.

He said he wanted the public to be mindful and ensure the playing equipment are safe for the children to use.

Mr Gue said he had made a report with the Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Health and Safety office.

He hopes that all playing equipment in all such facilities are checked and ensure that it is compliant to acceptable safety standards.

Owners of Tom’s World were approached for comments but had not responded when this edition went to press last night. According to the manager at the entertainment centre, the owner was out of Suva.
