Reverend Vakadewavosa urge ministers to lead by example

- KELERA SOVASIGA SUVA Edited by Selita Bolanavanua

The President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Reverend Epineri Vakadewavosa, has urged ministers to stand firm in their faith and not be led astray. He said this as he gave an example of recent news coverage on the alleged rape trial of Agape church pastor.

“We read in the daily newspapers of how crime rates are increasing in Fiji, and as leaders of the church, we are to raise our standards of service to our individual churches and its members and be Christ like in whatever we put our heart into,” Reverend Vakadewavosa said. Speaking during the Ministers Intensive InService Training for maritime zone ministers, he quoted the scripture from the book of Matthew 5: 48 saying, “Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect”.

“Despite the challengers faced by the church, as leader we are to lead by example, as the Lord has called us to those positions, work together and address situations and find remedies for it as we enhance the ministry.”

The training also included discussions on the role of the church in combating poverty and the critical theological reflections on the COVID-19 pandemic. The four-day training at the Centenary Church ends tomorrow. It is attended by Methodist Church ministers from Rotuma, Kadavu, Lau and the Lomaiviti group.
