‘A good newspaper is a nation talking to itself’

- Dewan Channd, Suva

LT-COL Vananalagi

I write to warmly congratulate Lt-Col Vananalagi of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces on her appointment as Chief Observer Group Golan.

It is a matter of great pride for Fiji and the Fijian people that one of our female military officers has been appointed to such an important international peace keeping mission.

Lt- Col Vananalagi’s bio-data makes impressive reading. She is very well qualified and experienced in military affairs. She sets a very good example for the women of our nation. It will motivate them to join the army and serve our nation at all levels of peace-keeping.

Lt- Col Vananalagi is married with six children. What an inspiration for all mothers! An excellent example that women can be just as good as any man in military service.

May I wish her a successful tour of duty in the war-torn Middle East.

iTaukei Minors TLTB Account Tukai Lagonilakeba, Nadi

Equal distribution of lease monies for all itaukei VKB registered landowners is one of the greatest evidence and proof of what our 2013 Constitution has brought about through the FijiFirst Bainimarama Government that includes the $15 million iTaukei grant. It baffles me as to why the former SVT Sitiveni Rabuka and the Laisenia Qarase SDL government could not come up with something similar during their term.

I heard Sitiveni Rabuka announce at Navatulevu Village, Denarau Rd during his Western tour SODELPA Campaign in 2018 with his former retired PS Anasa Vocea that he will increase the Social Welfare pension fund to $250 per recipient.

lf Rabuka could not implement these initiatives and increase during his term from 19871999 then how on earth can he do it today?

It is very shameful indeed to follow his many lies as an iTaukei elder, former PM and man of the cloth, Rabuka fails to realise that he is consistently telling lies to the people of this country and he will not earn the respect of the Fijian people come our next election.

Just for the record, it did not take the Bainimarama interim government post 2006 to recognise the disparity, inequality and the disrespectful mistreatment of our senior citizens, the then Minister for Social Welfare and late Madam Speaker Jiko Luveni recommended that social welfare pension scheme be increased forthwith.

In carrying the burden the FijiFirst Government have not stopped paying attention to the scheme in all their National Budgets, Our iTaukei Children’s Minors Account invested through TLTB until they reach the age of 18 years is Visionary, Smart, Futuristic and Caring, these itaukei policies are very overwhelming or awe-inspiring in nature and guarantees those VKB registered minors, it is realistically unthought-of for these iTaukei parents some of whom are very ungrateful and who said the Bainimarama Government is anti-Itaukei?

The above again did not happen during the SVT and the SDL reign but they are also directly benefitting equally from this fair lease distribution now in place, but I have never heard of these iTaukei opposition MPs complain.

Fijians of iTaukei descent will take stock and remember his lies those lies which will hit these opposition political parties again come our 2022 National election.
