Hillmen work on consistency
The Naitasiri rugby team are working hard on consistency with the aim to top the Skipper Cup points table.
With two rounds remaining and heading into the 13th round of the Skipper Cup, the Highlanders are on 40 points, three points behind leaders Suva.
The Ilaitia Tuisese (Jnr)-coached side are looking for a bonus point win against Tailevu at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday. Speaking to SUNsports Tuisese said the team must keep producing good wins.
“It has been a long season for the team and everything is coming along as planned,” he said.
“We are aiming to finish top of the table and get into the Skipper Cup semifinal and play in the final. “It has been a while since Naitasiri played in the final so we want to fill our trophy cabinet.
“We are far from our goals but we have a few more games to go before the final.”
Tuisese said they were going take one game at a time.
He said the hard work from their strong forward pack are slowly paying off.
“It took time for us to build on it but we are finally reaping the benefits of our hardwork,” he said. “We know we have some of our key players in the Flying Fijians squad but that’s not a problem for us because we have the depth in the squad.
“Some of to the young players are keen and ready to fill the positions left vacant so that’s a positive sign for Naitasiri moving forward.
“If you look at the way we have been playing this year it’s all about strength of our forwards.”
Tuisese said their games and preparations had always been invested on the forwards and also their set pieces.
“During our training sessions we always make sure that we work very closely with our forwards because 50% of the game is played by the forwards,” he said.
“Our backline does the finishing and they have been working very hard in trying to execute our moves well.”
Meanwhile, Tailevu coach Samisoni Baikeitoga has indicated that they also need to score a bonus point win to avoid being relegated. Tailevu are ahead of Lautoka and Yasawa but they need to win against Naitasiri to move out of the danger zone.
