Diwali time to share and care: Dr Raju

- WAISEA NASOKIA NADI

Diwali is a time to share and care and think of the less fortunate, needy, unemployed and the underprivileged in our society, says Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju.

“Two weeks prior to Diwali the business community in Nadi, Martintar, Namaka and other nearby areas has been brightening their shops with colourful and glittering lights,” Dr Raju said.

The bigger firms in town and business zones had put in extra efforts with their beautifying works that included attractive lights and setup.

Nadi citizens were drawn to such buildings in awe of the bright colourful colours and unique arrangements.

“Diwali is also a time for economic prosperity and progress and considered a lucky time to do business.

“Many are drawn into towns, cities and shopping centres to take advantage of the bargain prices that are often available at this time of the year,” he said.

He added Diwali sets the pace for the upcoming festive; despite the COVID-19 pandemic and its disastrous economic impact, the spirit to celebrate has not been dampened.

“By sharing and caring we bring smiles, hap

piness, cheer, and love,” he said.

“We all know the significance of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. It’s a joyous occasion celebrated all over the world with bright lights, colours and happiness

In Fiji and many other parts of the Indian diaspora, mark the most important and significant calendar of events which sees all the communities coming together to enjoy Diwali.

“It also signifies the start of the New Year for certain sectors of the Hindu community.”
