BA ON TRACKS, SAYS KUMAR
The Ba football team are planning to end the season on a high note by winning the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament in Labasa later in the month, says senior official.
Speaking to SUNsports Halls Ba Football Association president Rynal Kumar said their young side wanted to end the year with a win.
The Ba football side are the most successful team as they have won the Fiji FACT title eight times since tournament started in 1991.
They are drawn in Group A where they face Courts Interdistrict Championship winners Labasa, Punja’s Battle of the Giants winners Rewa and minnows Nasinu. “It’s a tough pool so obviously all teams will come prepared,” Kumar said.
“We have to do our best right from the first game and that’s the most important match.
“We hope we do take it all the way and win the tournament. To do that against these giants of football in our group we need to stay consistent.”
Kumar said the players had been training hard knowing that they won unless they d every little things right.
“We want to end well with a win because our trophy cabinet has been empty for a while now. The target is to win and keep our legacy as the country’s football champions alive.”
After their 2-1 loss to Labasa in the final round of the Vodafone Premier League match Kumar says, the team have the ability to create upsets during the tournament. “Last week’s game was a close one we nearly got the win but we lost focus later in the later stages,” he said.
“That was a snippet of what these young side can deliver come the FACT. That loss have shown us loopholes we need to work on.”
“We have to sharpen up on our finishing because we have lethal players upfront like Darold Kakasi.”
