PM to launch 4-year project to relocate 7 climate vulnerable households of Narikoso Village in Kadavu
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will inaugurate the four-year planned project on Thursday to relocate seven climate vulnerable households of Narikoso Village in Kadavu.
This will be part of his two-day tour to Kadavu.
The project, which was funded by the European Union, aims to reduce the vulnerability of Fijian communities that are experiencing the impacts of climate change. Implemented by the Fiji National Disaster Management Office, the project cost approximately EU$500,000 (about FJ$1.2m).
The project includes:
■ Installation of solar panels on homes and school buildings at the new relocation sites;
■ Re-vegetation around Narikoso to reduce coastal erosion
■ Enhanced community and household livelihoods through support for livestock;
■ Farming and home gardening.
The houses were constructed through the EU-GIZ Adapting to Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Programme. Mr Bainimarama is expected to make other engagements during his visit.
