Tiko Kece Taxis & Hire has been assisting Nabua Secondary School teachers, through the Matua Programme, with free transportation for the past 16 years.

Director Ratu Loma Baleilevuka said about 10 to 12 teachers sacrificed their family time to teach students in the evening hence it was an area worth supporting.

“In 2004, the Matua Programme Management approached us for the transportation,” he said.

“This is something amazing the teachers and the management is doing for those who dropped out of school and I acknowledge their efforts,” he said. “About $300 a week is used for the transportation.”

Some of his drivers, he said, have also benefitted from the Matua Programme with one becoming a lawyer and another a teacher.

The Matua programme is for adults who wish to complete their secondary school education that will eventually enable them to get tertiary education or employment.
