Fight me, Nawai tells Gaunavou

Mulomulo Boxing Club’s Siliveni Nawai has openly challenged Fiji super middleweight champion Tomu Gaunavou.

“I want to fight Gaunavou next,” Nawai said on Saturday night after beating former middleweight champion Abhay Chand on points. Gaunavou was to defend his title against Nawai in the programme but pulled out in the eleventh hour due to a hand injury.

“I was looking forward to fight Tomu and not Abhay. I had prepared well but I needed to improve my record. I did give Abhay Chand a worthy fight and won.”

Nawai said fighting Chand was not a mismatch.

“We had a gameplan against Abhay since was a great champion and I followed it.

“Right now I want to fight Tomu and try to win his belt. I hope he will give me that chance.”
