Tourism Fiji CEO
Ronnie Chang, Nadi
Further to my comments, (FS 16/11/20) in reference to the appointment of the new chief executive officer (CEO) for Tourism Fiji, there is a million dollar question that must be asked.
Will the successful appointee be given the ‘time and space’ to work freely devoid of any interference from the corridors of political power? This will be the toughest ask. Sometimes, good women and men, must be able to agree to disagree, however remain civil without fear, favour and rancour.
Fiji is graced with suitable, admirable and distinguished candidates for this lucrative and challenging position.
Admittedly, in bigger, better and brighter pre-COVID days, Fiji’s tourism proudly brought in 40 per cent of this island nation’s gross domestic product, unsurpassed by any other product.
The successful candidate must be duly given the ‘space’ to work without any undue heavyhandedness from political quarters.
In all job functions and responsibilities ‘familiarity breeds contempt’ as the proverb taught me in primary school in late 1950s and early 1960s.
This statement still holds true to this very day, and age.
These thoughts are shared for an even better and much brighter Fiji when our friendly borders finally re-open.
