UN, Government Promote Children to Lead the Way in Healthy Eating

The Pacific Kids Food Revolution was yesterday launched to promote the participation of children in healthy and diversified diets and lifestyle across
Fiji.
Pacific Kids Food Revolution is a televised competition involving child competitors coming up with healthy conscious cooking and food preparation. It will feature celebrity chef Robert Oliver and UNICEF Pacific Ambassador Pita Taufatofua. It follows on from the Pacific Island Food Revolution competition.
Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said: “Children will lead the way to show their school friends, teachers, families and communities how easy it is to cook and eat healthier foods hence creating positive eating behaviours that will take them into adulthood.”
Fiji’s recent nutritional survey has indicated the need to increase our investment on the quality of food intake to tackle micro-nutrient deficiencies like anemia and Vitamin A deficient,
“Not to mention the high prevalence of overweight and obesity, especially among the adolescents and youths across Fiji,” he said.
UNICEF partnered with the PIFR for Season One, which focuses on the importance of nutrition and clean water/ environment during the first 1000 days of a child’s life to prevent stunting.
UNICEF Pacific Representative, Sheldon Yett said the launch would enable more awareness through the children because they were the best brand ambassadors for good healthy eating.
