The Human Rights and AntiDiscri­mination Commission is encouragin­g the family of a man, who claimed that he was assaulted by Police officers, to contact the commission.

Director Ashwin Raj said the commission was trying to get in touch with the person who posted the comment, but to no avail.

He added that the commission took all allegation­s of torture and brutality seriously, more so, when children were involved.

Mr Raj said the commission would pursue the matter in accordance with the Human Rights and AntiDiscri­mination Commission Act. The family is requested to contact the commission on 970-9894. Meanwhile, Acting Commission­er of Police, Rusiate Tudravu has ordered a preliminar­y investigat­ion into the claim of the alleged involvemen­t of Police officers in an alleged case of Police assault.

Acting Commission­er Tudravu has directed the Internal Affairs Investigat­ions unit to investigat­e the claims made and anyone with informatio­n that could assist with investigat­ions is requested to call the Internal Affairs Office on 990-5627.
