COURT DISMISSES APPLICATION
The Employment Relations Court has dismissed an injunction application filed to preserve the status quo of 323 employees of Fiji National University’s Technical College.
The Fiji Teachers Union and Fijian Teachers Association filed a representative action on behalf of its 323 members who are staff of 15 Technical Colleges around the country.
It challenged their termination notices served on them by Fiji National University.
The notices were effective from January 1, 2021.
The staff were previously employees of the Ministry of Education before they were shifted to FNU.
The substantive matter will be called for mention on March 23.
In the judgment, Judge Justice Anjala Wati has ordered the cost of $2000 to be paid to the University by the Union and the Association.
