Frontliner gives birth to first baby boy in Labasa
ACOVID-19 frontliner joined some 45 women across the country in welcoming her newborn son into the world on New Year’s Day.
Police Constable Litia Namakadre of Labasa was at the delicate first quarter of her pregnancy when parts of Dreketi was in lockdown because of the COVID-19 community transmission there. The lockdown was a stringent measure by Government and health officials to mitigate the risk of more infections.
Constable Namakadre used to brave 12-hour shifts mainly at checkpoints.
Yesterday, she and her beaming husband, Viliame Sivo, welcomed their first son after having three daughters.
Iliesa Kaleca Sivo was born at 11.15am, weighing 3.7kilograms and a length of 55 centimetres. Also in Labasa, 21-year- old Eta Nailailai of Druadrua Village, gave birth to her second child weighing 2.9 kilograms.
The mother of two was due earlier on Tuesday and did not expect to deliver her baby on the new year. She was grateful for the assistance of the midwives that helped her normally deliver her baby successfully as they continue to recover at the hospital.
In Nadi
At the Nadi Hospital, 38-year- old Farina Yasmin Nisha gave birth to her baby son at 1:13am.
The mother of four who lives in
Malolo Nadi said while 2020 had been a difficult year, their baby signified a positive year ahead.
“The birth of our son is special because the first day of the year has brought happiness to me and my family. My husband was excited about the news this morning.” Nisha’s baby weighs 3.5 kg.
Also in Nadi, Maviola Nai, of Nasivikoso, Magodro in Ba, welcomed her fifth child.
The 36-years- old who lives in Bukuya Village with the family has said: “I am thankful to God that the birth of my son signifies the separation from the old to a new beginning.
In Suva
At the CWM Hospital, 21 -year- old Fane Takayawa gave birth to her second baby boy.
Jason Bainivalu Ramagimagi was born at 12.50am weighing four kg.
Ms Takayawa was the second mother who gave birth at the CWM Hospital following the first mother giving birth at 12.12am via caesarean section.
She added that with the New Year and new beginnings, Jason was a new bundle of joy added to their beautiful family.
Ms Takayawa said Jason was a lucky baby for the family and they looked forward to sharing joyful moments with him.
“Jason is the first gift of 2021 and my sweetest blessing,” Ms Takayawa said.
In a statement the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund ( UNICEF) estimated that 45 children were born in Fiji yesterday. 161 babies were born in the Pacific Islands with Samoa welcoming the first baby in the region on New Year’s Day and Niue the last.
