Roro Reef to Cloud 9, and Hot Glass Fiji for Gifts
InterContinental Golf Resort and Spa general manager, Lachlan Walker, has worked extensively in the regional tourism sector.
From Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Vanuatu to Fiji, he has worked with InterContinental Hotels and Resorts for over seven years.
“My last post was area general manager for regional New South Wales based in Hunter Valley, known for its wonderful food produce and Australia’s oldest Wine region,” Mr Walker said.
He trained as a chef at the Four Seasons in Sydney.
His wife and children remain in Australia, given the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
“I miss them terribly,” Mr Walker said.
What’s one place you’d take every visitor to in Fiji and why?
Natadola Beach of course, not only because it’s at the InterContinental; given its close proximity to Nadi International airport and its beautiful white sand and pristine water.
I had no idea there were such beaches like this on the main island, I was always told you needed to head to the islands, it’s fantastic for swimming, snorkelling, diving and even surfing, it’s all there.
What’s your secret backyard favourite spot?
I have two - the beautiful Malolo Island, where my wife and I went, also at Natadola beach again, in particular Nava restaurant at the InterContinental Fiji overlooking Navo Island watching sun set or an early morning breakfast.
We have special day passes for locals to buy if not staying. Contact enquires.fiji@ihg.com
What’s your favourite place in Fiji for a pie/coffee?
Of course, Grand Pacific Bakery for Cappuccino and the new and very good Doughnut fries with salted caramel and chocolate dipping sauces.
Or a flat white and biscotti at Tapa Lounge Bar, Holiday Inn.
The best biscotti at the ROC just near Suva Holiday Inn.
As I drive between Suva and Natadola frequently, it’s a coffee and glazed doughnut at Grace Road.
Cafe Planet Fiji, Korotogo is a great place to stop.
Then head on to Hot Glass Fiji for beautiful gifts.
What’s one Fiji spot on the top of your
bucket list?
Again two places, Levuka – Fiji’s first capital, will be great to take a trip back in time.
It’s another area of Fiji that I hear is still untouched, and I hear its runs on real “Fiji Time”.
When borders open and my two sons Hugo and Harry can come with their surf boards, we’ll head there - Me with a very long beginners board) to Roro Reef, Mamanuca Islands to Cloud 9 for a lots of surf, sun and quality time after many months apart.
