Nawaka on a 7s revival
Nawaka Village, Nadi, is well known for breeding rugby players. Nawaka is the home of former national rep like Semisi Naevo and current Fijian 7s forward Meli Derenalagi. Nawaka coach, Jeff Tamata, said it has been quite a few years that Nawaka last had a national 7s rep.
“Our main goal for the Super
7s Series is to develop our young squad most of whom are Under-19 players,” he said.
“This is a development team, it is a good learning experience for them to come and play among the big names.
“We could not more,” he said.
“We are not here to make numbers but to do our best. “We really acknowledge being considered one of the top sevens teams. ask for
Preparation for the series started last month as the boys sacrificed their festive season.
“Most of them are unemployed as we are trying to revive 7s rugby in Nawaka,” he said.
“Hopefully some of these players will make the national squad in the not too distant future.”
In the 15/16th playoffs Nawaka beat Eastern Saints 17-10.
